Director, School of Library and Information Science, University of
Kentucky


        The University of Kentucky is seeking a Director to lead a
dynamic program that offers the M.S.L.S. and M.A. degrees to
approximately 240 students, participates in a College-wide Ph.D. program
in Communication, and is developing an interdisciplinary undergraduate
minor in Information Studies. The School will move into new facilities
in October, 2007.

        The University of Kentucky is the flagship campus in the state,
situated in greater Lexington (population 260,000), in the beautiful
Bluegrass region of horse farms and rolling hills. Founded in 1865, UK
is a public, research-extensive, land grant Institution, ranked among
the top U.S. public universities on a number of criteria, with special
strength in the health sciences.

        The Director's mission will be to maintain existing on-campus
and distant student cohorts while creating new opportunities for growth
in undergraduate education; to motivate and support the performance of
11 full-time faculty in teaching, scholarship, and service; to maintain
good relations with the academic community, alumni, and professionals
state-wide as well as nation-wide; to develop external sources of
funding; and to maintain American Library Association accreditation.

        The University invites nominations and applications from
candidates with an earned doctorate appropriate for leadership in
information studies; relevant disciplinary backgrounds might include
library/information science, education, communication, computer science,
information technology, knowledge management and similar fields. A
record of successful teaching, research, and service in higher
education, and a strong vision for educating information professionals
and expanding research opportunities, are essential.
