This time a live stream direct from the Giant Ocean Tank at the New England Aquarium in Boston. It’s a 4-story coral reef exhibit featuring over 150 species. It’s accessible directly from the NEA (with feeding times listed) or via this Earthcam page.

In the mean time, you can look at Wrigley Field (home of the Cubs) using this LIVE street-level webcam. The camera is located near the front of the ballpark at Clark and Addison streets and offers an extremly clear view. Since it updates every few seconds, you can see traffic and people move past the camera. Those walking from left to right might be heading for the “L” train about two blocks away.

As visitors from all over the world come to see the fall colors, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont have taken their foliage reports high-tech, letting visitors keep track of the changing colors by mobile and e-mail alerts and computerized maps. Foliage season, which progresses north to south, started mid-September and runs into late October. The Web sites all offer foliage reports, promote fall events and suggest the best routes to travel:

* Maine’s site, www.mainefoliage.com, features a map, a live daily chat with a conservation department official, video of foliage scenes around the state, a Maine foliage hotline and foliage reports by e-mail. Forest rangers track and report the changing colors, which are updated every Wednesday through October 17.

* http://www.visitnh.gov/”>New Hampshire’s Web site encourages visitors to sign up to receive foliage reports on their cell phones and just added a new map that predicts color changes. The map is roughly based on previous years’ reports but state officials regularly check to make sure that the colors on the Web site match those in nature. Visitors can also click on specific regions to get more detailed and up-to-date reports. New Hampshire also offers alerts sent to your cell phone.

* Vermont’s site features an animated map, called the Foliage Forecaster, that estimates color changes. The map is only an approximation of typical color progression. For more accurate information, the site refers visitors to its foliage reports.

New from TrafficLand is a tool that allows the user to access code to quickly embed live traffic imagery on a web page, blog, etc.

The image that’s visible in the “widget box” does not auto-refresh. You can refresh the page yourself. However, a link to access a live image (images refresh at different rates depending on location) can be found available directly below the widget image box.

Here’s an example of a page we built with the widget coder with cameras from NYC and New Orleans.

The company [Slingbox] says that San Francisco Bay Area CBS affiliate, CBS 5 (KPIX-TV) has found a new use for its technology: the broadcaster is using Slingbox technology, in tandem with 3G wireless data networks and still video cameras, to deliver live and still video feeds, as well as live in-car broadcasts, from around the Bay Area. According to the company, CBS 5 has 28 live cameras, all of which are supported by Slingbox technology: seen out of the Bay Area’s nine bridges have a camera installed on them, as do the region’ major thoroughfares and airports. CBS 5 uses live video from these cameras on air and also makes footage from them available for viewing on its Web site. The site also features live still images from all 28 cameras. “On April 30th, 2007, for the first time ever in television, CBS 5 used Slingbox technology to send a signal back to the station for broadcast from a moving vehicle,” CBS 5 news director, Dan Rosenheim, said in a prepared statement. “As a result, we were able to watch our reporter’s progress as she drove through rush-hour traffic in areas affected by the I-580 freeway collapse on April 29th. This is another example of the way digital technology is changing television news to the benefit of viewers.” Added Sling Media’s VP of marketing, Rich Buchanan: “Sling Media is thrilled to see CBS 5 use our Slingbox technology in innovative, cost-effective, and compelling ways that benefit their viewers. The Slingbox was designed to transmit a video feed across the Internet for viewing on a remote display. CBS 5 has taken this one big step further and we couldn’t be more impressed with the way they have implemented our technology.”

The camera is located at the SIAG Pyramids Hotel in Giza, about 1.5 kilometers ENE of the Pyramids Plateau. It is placed at the highest point in the area and is over 200 feet above street level.
