Many librarians have perception that they are no longer needed in today’s era of information and technology, which is not the reality, Chief Executive Officer of USA-based global organisation ‘Special Libraries Association’ (SLA), Janice Lachance has said.
“In today’s age of Internet and other technical resources, it is only in the ability of librarian to validate and verify the flood of information available,” she added.
Lachance was speaking with Sakaal Times on the sidelines of a workshop on ‘Future of library profession: Embedded librarianship and beyond,’ organised by SLA, Asia chapter along with Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE) and Pune University Library and Information Science Alumni Association, here on Monday.
Speaking on the future of library profession, Lachance said, “Librarians are now information professionals. They should not wait for clients to come to them, rather they should anticipate the information needs of clients and deliver them accordingly.”
