Search activity costing UK over £6bn a year

From the Article:

Searching for information on the internet costs the UK economy about £6.2bn in time, according to a research conducted by Simplexo, an open source enterprise search specialist.

Professionals waste time extracting information from corporate IT systems because of the complexity of the nature of information and the inefficient search capabilities, the report added.

About 19% of the respondents claimed it took them between two and three days to search for relevant information while more than 24% of those questioned stated that it took them over a day.

The research also suggested that more than one third of the respondents (34%) could not find all the information they wanted from information management systems such as CRM, email and accounting programs. Meanwhile over 50% said they have to conduct detailed searches several times a day, and a further 39% claimed they had to do so over ten times a week.

Separately, it also revealed that 26% of those interviewed still resort to their IT desk for help in search, while 40% could only undertake one search at a time.
