Oodle.com is the one of the largest single web databases/interfaces for classified advertising and serves as a single search spot for over 80,000 thousand LOCAL classified sites (and related databases) in the U.S., Canada. and UK. From pet supplies to concert tickets to boats for sale. Of couse, just what is a “classified” ad these days is also worthy of discussion.
Begin by running a general search from the home page or use specialty interfaces for homes for sale, tickets, personals, help wanted, and other categories.
+ New “Shaking Hands” Logo
+ Personalized home page that includes recent searches. Save time if you are trying a search on a regular basis.
+ RSS feeds for all searches or be alerted via email
+ While the main purpose of Oodle is to get buyers and sellers together, it can also be used by business researchers to potentially spot trends in products for sale, hot real estate markets, used car pricing, etc. on both national and local levels. That’s one of the positives about searching individual databases at one time. In this case it APPEARS that Oodle is collecting listings into a single large dbase and then making it searchable vs. simultaneously searching a select number of databases in real-time, what some call federated or metasearch.
A general search for Super Bowl gives you a good idea of the range of databases, products, and job listings. Of course, like with any database with items for sale (or in a contest), caveat emptor, of course.
