Refererence: Searchable Encyclopedias #2: Full Text (and Free) Encyclopedias for Florida, Texas, and California

This is the SECOND post in our collection of free web-based encyclopedias for specific locations. In our first post we provided links to encyclopedias for Canada, Chicago, and Georgia.

+ Floripedia: A Florida Encyclopedia

Floripedia is a collection of articles about Florida and Florida history. Most of the articles were written a long time ago. The original source is given at the end of each article. Be sure to notice the date when the article was written. Also keep in mind that the articles were written for a variety of purposes. For example, an article that was originally written to promote a Florida town will most likely emphasize all of the good features of the town and skip over any problems.

+ The Handbook of Texas Online

The Handbook of Texas Online is a multidisciplinary encyclopedia of Texas history, geography, and culture sponsored by the Texas State Historical Association and the General Libraries at UT Austin. Please see the introduction for further details.

+ California Online Encyclopedia

The goal of the California Online Encyclopedia (COE) is the development of an online resource that will deliver the most current information about California topics to lifelong learners. The COE will offer a variety of information, formats, media, and information geared for different educational levels and interests. It will be interactive and fully searchable and committed to including diverse voices and excellent content. It will involve academic and community scholars who will contribute articles and edit the projects.
