The legislation, passed by both the House and Senate last week, would create an online clinical drug registry. Lawmakers hope the information will help patients, providers and researchers make better health care decisions.
The state’s Health Care Quality and Cost Council by March is expected to begin posting insurers’ payments to individual hospitals and corresponding quality measures. State officials believe the online data will reduce costs, as consumers begin to comparison shop. Massachusetts currently posts average payments from all insurers.
