Instant Messaging: meebo.com Adds File Sharing

meebo.com Adds File Sharing
The meebo team never slows down and if you like the term Web 2.0 :-) , well, it’s a great example. If you are tired of 2.0 terminology, meebo is an excellent service, period!

meebo.com, is a popular (especially with info pros) web-based IM service (no downloads required) that works with all of the major IM services (AOL, Google, MSN, Yahoo) in a single app (again, all web-based) has announced that you can now use meebo to transfer files. For example, a library using meebo could quickly send a document file to an end user.

From the blog post:

You’ll notice that there’s a new bright and shiny button on the IM window toolbar (the white square with the swanky green arrow). We’ve tried to make the whole transfer process as easy as we could, so all you have to do is click a button and upload a file. The receiver on the other end will get a link to click on (similar to a meebo rooms invite) and all they have to do is click and accept. We’re only allowing meebo account holders to send files, but anyone can receive… even your friends who are not on meebo (but should be =p). We’re not quite supporting this feature in Safari yet, but hopefully soon!

In recent weeks we posted about meebo being iPhone ready and prior to that, the launch of meebo Rooms. So, a library can create a “room” and embed that could directly into its website.
