1) Via LIBREF (thanks John J.) is this Library History Time Line from the Association for Computer Aided Design in Architecture. It begins in c. 1250 B.C. with the Library at Thebes and concludes in 1998 when Seattle passed the, largest public bond measure in history for a public library system: 196 million dollars to build or renovate 26 branch libraries and construct a new main library.
2) Librarian, automation expert, writer, speaker, and Director of theVanderbilt Television News Archive, Marshall Breeding, offers this colorful timeline of library automation history dating back to 1968. We first posted about it last year and also linked to two more Breeding essentials:
A) Library Technology Guides often updated daily.
B) lib-web-cats, a database with information about what OPACS and other automation tools libraries around the world utilize.
See Also: LibDex, another database of OPACS and library automation tools used around the world. Compiled and maintained by Peter Scott.
