Bill information was gathered from several published and unpublished sources using a variety of online search vehicles, including the National Conference of State Legislatures, Google, state legislative, state department of health, and foundation websites. The search was limited to policies directly concerned with heart disease and stroke and excluded policies related to smoking, nutrition, and physical activity because there are existing policy databases related to tobacco (http://apps.nccd.cdc.gov/statesystem/) and nutrition and physical activity (http://apps.nccd.cdc.gov/DNPALeg/).
