There are about 220,000 described species of Coleoptera (beetles), of which 24,000 occur in the United States and Canada. The fascicles of this catalog have been issued since 1979 and were produced by an original group of computer programs, designed and written by the Systematic Entomology Lab of the USDA Agricultural Research Service.
