Real Time Information: Traffic.com Adds Real-Time Traffic Video Now Available for 30 Cities
Today, NAVTEQ’s Traffic.com service has joined in aggregating real-time traffic cameras for 30 metropolitan areas across the U.S. Where does the imagery come from? A source we’ve mentioned many times on ResourceShelf, Trafficland.com. They also offer their own free service. Trafficland.com aggregates traffic info from numerous public sources.
Trafficland content is also embedded with the aerial imagery provided on SkylineGlobe, a 3D digital globe.
The [Traffic.com] free service is available for 30 cities including Atlanta, Boston, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, and San Francisco. sers will find JamCast videos by clicking on the JamCast tab at the top of Traffic.com’s city area pages. Users are then guided across city roadways with real-time congestion updates and delays.
Quick Notes:
1) Traffic.com offers many other real time services including personalized traffic RSS feeds, voice activated traffic reports [1-866 MY-TRAFC], traffic alerts delivered with certain thresholds are met, and much more.
2) In addition to U.S. content, Trafficland aggregates traffic cameras for cities in Australia, Canada, Denmark, New Zealand, and the UK. Remember, these are just of the few areas where streaming or near-real time video/imagery is available.
3) Of course, the combination between mobile access to info and real time traffic imagery is very powerful. Just be careful and keep your eyes on the roads. We’re sure it will not belong when real time video displays of traffic conditions are placed directly into the automobile, just like GPS/traffic is today.
