For a large portion of 2006 we posted about the many new newspaper achives that focus on a specific topic or even that NewspaperARCHIVE was making available at no charge. Searchable, full text, full image pages from thousands of of newspapers. In fact, some of the content in these free “special collections” is also for sale elsewhere. Then, NewspaperArchive.com revamped their site and accessing this free content became a challenge. The good news is that the challenge is no longer an issue. Enter terms, click, access results, go directly to full text, full image of article(s). Hooray!!!

Since it’s college basketball fever in the U.S. these days, the CollegeBasketballArchive.com offers full text, full image access to over 50,000 historic newspaper pages about college hoops. Also, note the browsable timeline (very cool) and the advanced search page. To access these special features, begin by running a keyword search on the home page. The results page will offer links to the timeline, advanced interface and more. Access the full text and image of any article(s) by just clicking.
