eSnips is one of the many remote storage services that are online these days. They also “play” in the online communities/social networking space. They’ve been around for about 2 years. On Thursday, the company increased the amount of free online storage space from 1GB to 5GB. Nice. A few months ago eSnips began offering online communities (photography, painting, poetry, etc). While we like (and use) several remote storage services, eSnips is quickly moving to the top of the list. For those who give seminars about search and web tools, it’s very easy to use and registration takes all of ten seconds. No personal info is required. However, if you want to share that type of info, eSnips also offers the opportunity to do so. You can even associate a video and/or audio file with your profile.

What Else? Here are a few key features:
+ 5GB of storage.
+ Save an entire web page or only a portion.
+ Take/save/share screen caps.
+ Save/share any file.
+ Mark folders public or private. Share materials with a select group.
+ Tag items? Of course. Search tagged items in public folders.
+ Create music playlists.
+ E-Commerce Tools
+ An “uploader app” (Windows Only) and toolbar make saving content fast and easy. A video recorder is available as an option.

Shortly after eSnips launched, Mary Ellen Bates wrote a very positive review of eSnips.

Note to eSnips:
We would love to see you do what two of your competitors (OmniDrive and Box.net) have recently added to their features list and add direct access from eSnips to Zoho for easy online editing of certain types of documents.

Inbox.com offers 5GB of web-based email storage space at no charge. Tons of features too! Xdrive also provides 5GB of storage for free. Box.net and OmniDrive offer 1GB of storage space at no charge. More space for a small monthly fee. Mozy, another service we’ve been impressed with provides 2GB of free space and “unlimited” space for a small fee. MediaMax offers 25GB of storage for free. However, you can only download/share 1GB of material per month at no charge. Like the others, more storage and downloading for a small monthly fee. Again, what you see listed here is the tip of the online storage iceberg. Want more? Check out this compilation from TechCrunch.
