Gmail Now Available to All; Other Web-Based Mail Programs Offer Up To 5GB of Storage

The story also talks about new mobile tools for Gmail in the U.K. 2.8 MB available to users. Gmail first launched in a private release almost 3 years ago on April 1, 2004. Many thought it was a joke. Nope. It will be interesting to see if the user base increases now that it’s a bit more open. Since the early days, it’s been relatively easy to get an invite to join with people offering invites on message boards, discussion lists, etc. In terms of storage size:
+ Inbox.com provides 5GB of email storage for US, CA and UK residents. Elsewhere, 2GB. POP3 & SMTP access.
+ Walla.com, a leading portal in Israel offers 3GB of storage.
Note: After logging into our email space allotment reads that we have 5GB of space. Very basic features. No ads.
+ Groowy.com, 2GB of email storage and a bunch of other web-based tools.
Note: Groowy is also the provider of the web-based “dashboard” utilizing widgets named yourminis.
+ Lycos Mail (free version) 3 GB of mail storage. The fee-based ($20/year) offers no ads and 5GB of storage. All versions provide unlimited size file attachments.
Note: Lycos UK offers several options as well including Lycos Personal for about 2 pounds/month. It offers a free domain name and 10GB of email storage, Send 50MB attachments, no limit to the size of attachments received. U.S. residents appear to have access.
+ Microsoft Office Live Basics (the free service) offers 2 GB of email storage, 25 email accounts, 500 MB of file storage, 10GB of storage, registration of a domain name, and more.
+ MSN Live Mail and Live Mail Mobile, Free, 2 GB of Storage. A Windows mail client is also available (free).
+ Yahoo Mail (1 GB free), For $20, additional services (including no graphical ads, No promotional taglines in messages, archiving) and 2GB of mail storage
