Webcast: Yahoo Research Lecture Series: Pam Samuelson
Recorded on January 24, 2007 at Yahoo’s Mission College Campus. Her talk is titled, “Can Copyright Survive the Web Without Lightening Up?.”
Pam Samuelson of UC Berkeley talked about copyright law as it relates to the Web to an attentive crowd at Yahoo’s Mission College campus on Wednesday, January 24. In her talk, “Can Copyright Survive the Web Without Lightening Up?”, she discussed the history of how copyright law started light but eventually grew heavy. “When copying becomes lightweight, there’s a need to regulate more, and copyright ends up becoming heavyweight,” according to Samuelson. She summarized her talk by explaining that copyright law serves a useful function in our society, but what we need is a “model copyright law” –- the ideal copyright law that is lightweight and balanced.
Samuelson is focused on a project for the next 5 years to come up with the model copyright law.
