Lists and Rankings: 100 Best Communities for Young People

100 Best Communities for Young People

From press release:
In partnership with Capital One, 100 Best Communities for Young People showcases cities and communities across the country that tackle challenges and demonstrate innovative efforts to deliver the Five Promises that young people need to succeed – caring adults, safe places, a healthy start, effective education and opportunities to help others.

More than 750 communities from all 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, entered the 2007 competition. The 2007 100 Best winners’ circle includes cities and communities from 38 states, representing localities large and small, urban and rural. What these communities show is that going the extra mile can make a tremendous difference in the lives of America’s youth. The communities range in size from large urban areas, like Chicago and New York, to smaller focused efforts, like the St. Johns-Tri School community in Texas with a population of 18,000. While their size and demographics make them different, what unites them is their commitment to children – to increase high school graduation rates, improve health care, and build safe communities.
