Wow, this is super cool (in our opinion) and has jumped to the top of our “must test out now” list.

One company that we mention (and also utilize their tools on a regular basis) often on ResourceShelf is Zoho.com.

They are the developers of numerous web-based (and free) productivity tools including a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation building tool and many others.*

Web 2.0 means many things to many people. We think most people would agree that Zoho is an excellent example of some of the high-quality, useful, and PRACTICAL work being done.

O.K., so what’s today’s news?

Zoho has partnered with OmniDrive, a web-based/remote storage service.

This is another popular offering in the Web 2.0 space. We’ve been highlighting companies in the remote storage space. It was just the other day when we mentioned two players and provided links to many others.

Omnidrive not only provides web-accessible, remote storage, but also offers you the ability to stream files, share, publish, and much more. About a year ago, Web 2.0 guru, Michael Arrington, said that even back then what Omnidrive offered was, “online storage perfection.”

As of today, Omnidrive users can open and remotely edit stored text documents/HTML files/Word files using Zoho Writer. By Wednesday, you’ll also be able to open spreadsheets with Zoho Sheet and presentation files with Zoho Show.

As the Zoho blog correctly points out, with other remote storage services you first need to download and then open the file with the proper app. Now, with the Zoho/OmniDrive partnership, no need. Storage and then being able to update/change/manipulate many types of files are all available in a single, web-based solution.

Omnidrive offers several pricing plans. The “Free” plan offers 1GB of storage and 5GB of bandwidth/month. The “Pro1″ version offers 10GB of storage and 20GB of bandwidth/month and costs $40/U.S./year. Bottom Line: With the free gig of space, 100% worth a look and comparing with what others offer.

* The company behind Zoho, AdventNet also offers (free) the very useful Site24×7 monitoring tool.

** You can upload/download/interact with your saved content either with a web-based interface, a Windows client, or, coming in about a week, a Mac client.
