French mobile phone users set a new national record for text messages overnight, as they sent New Year’s wishes surging across cell networks, the major operators said Monday. More than 36 million SMSs were sent through transmitters owned by SFR and France Telecom subsidiary Orange between midnight and 1:00 am (2300 GMT and 0000 GMT), the two companies said.
