UK: JISC spreads the cash

From the article:

JISC, which provides technological support for education and research, announced the first round of its capital funds programme on 17 November 2006.

It has allocated nearly £5.5m to 27 projects from almost 100 bids, mainly in repositories and e-learning, although it has also given support to e-infrastructure programmes.

The biggest single allocation, £1.4m, has gone to the Sherpa repository support project at the University of Nottingham. The project will provide a free one stop shop for advice and support to all higher education institutions in England and Wales in establishing and developing digital repositories. “This is particularly important because they have done a lot of work setting up institutional repositories, which has been a really important development in universities,” a JISC spokesperson told GC News. “It is going to help universities around the country set up and develop their own repositories.”
