Response rates to FOIA requests improve
Agencies are improving the way they disseminate information to the public thanks to a presidential directive that requires them to review and revamp how they respond to Freedom of Information Act requests. The executive order “has had an immediate and widespread positive effect on the operations of the federal agencies that administer the FOIA,†Attorney General Alberto Gonzales wrote in a report issued Oct. 16. However, he noted that a large backlog at many agencies “still remains an area of concern.â€
