A Fork in Wikipedia’s Road: Say Hello to Citizendium.org

So many user contributed encyclopedias, so little time? :-)

Know-it-alls, please stand down. Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger announced Friday what he calls a “fork” from the original user-generated online encyclopedia of information that will give the final word on its entries to credentialed experts.

While the Wikipedia that online researchers have grown to know isn’t going anywhere, Mr. Sanger is starting what he calls a fork—a new project that builds upon existing material—dubbed Citizendium.org. Based on the original Wikipedia model and coding, Citizendium will differ by allowing select experts to have a final say on the content of its user-generated entries…“It’s still a radically collaborative project. When a final decision about a topic needs to be made, after some legitimate debate has gone on between all parties, the person with the most knowledge about a subject should have final say,” said Mr. Sanger.
