Building Preservation Environments
Presented by Dr. Reagan W. Moore, San Diego Supercomputer Center at the Oxford University Internet Institute
Multiple projects in the US are using data grid technology to build preservation environments. The concept driving this approach is the recognition that at the point in time when new technology is being incorporated in a preservation environment, both the old and the new technology are present. The data virtualization mechanisms provided by data grids make it possible to interact simultaneously with both versions of the technology. A preservation environment based on data grid technology inherently contains the functionality needed to manage technology evolution.
