Electronic Clearinghouse for Alternative Format Production Pilot Project
In March 2005 the Canadian Library Association received a grant from the federal government’s Office of Disability Issues, Social Development Canada, to implement a pilot project for a clearinghouse of electronic files used in the production of print materials.
The concept was that a Clearinghouse of electronic files would aid in the production of materials in alternative formats, thereby making them more accessible to the print-disabled: primarily the visually impaired, but also those with other challenges that make it difficult for them to access traditional print-on-paper or print-on-screen text.
The pilot project was intended to set up a basic internet-based clearinghouse and to develop the appropriate legal agreements that producers would require for participation.
The pilot project is now complete.
