New Look for The Gateway to Educational Materials Database

The new look is nothing major but it is a good reason to mention (again) The Gateway to 21st Century Skills (part of GEM Exchange) an excellent and growing compilation of “education” sites, tools, and resources built by educators with the help of the NEA. This is another non-commercial and well-maintained directory of resources not only for educators but for all web users.

Another reason we like “The Gateway” is that it uses faceted search technology from Siderean. More about Siderean in this recent post where we noted that this technology is coming soon to the Librarians’ Internet Index. That post also links to other demos of faceted search technology. We said it a few weeks ago and we’ll say it again, faceted search technology is very cool and very useful. It also shows the value of good metadata.
