Exalead’s Proximity Operator Offers More Precision
Thanks to Karen Blakeman for alerting us to what we have now confirmed direct from Exalead’s CEO, Francois Bourdoncle. You can now specify the number of words with Exalead’s proximity operator NEAR. The default is terms within 16 words in either direction but using NEAR/x will allow you to specify the number of words. Bourdoncle also told us that he was unaware of any specific number of words (max. or minimum) you can use. For example, librarian NEAR/5 ISBN. Btw, this feature is not listed in Exalead’s documentation. Now, how about an operator that offers proximity in one direction like Factiva’s w/ feature. Exalead continues to do important work work and is a valuble tool for all online searchers especially those who know how to take advantage of “advanced” search features. Btw, Exalead also offers truncation, pattern searching, and more including the ability to customize the home page.
