Library Layoffs in Anchorage: 22 staffers lose their jobs

From the article, “The layoffs, targeting primarily college-educated, higher paid professionals, would save the city $1.25 million next year out of an annual library budget of $6.5 million, Begich told the gathering in the Anchorage Assembly chambers. There will also be cuts to library programs. But no branch library will close, operating hours will stay the same, and the library will buy new books and other materials at the current rate, said [Mayor Mark] Begich and municipal librarian Art Weeks.”
