From the story, “Public libraries cannot be forced to use Internet filters designed to block pornography, three federal judges said Friday in overturning a new federal law. In a 195-page decision, the judges said the Children’s Internet Protection Act went too far because the filters can also blocked access to sites that contain protected speech.”

A geographic search demo wins the $10,000 prize. From the announcement, “Daniel’s project adds the ability to search for web pages within a particular geographic locale to traditional keyword searching…We selected Daniel’s project because it combined an interesting and useful idea with a clean and robust implementation.” Note: Similar services have already been developed and implemented.
