GuideStar Secures 11.5 Million Dollars in Funding
A key web resource that provides data on non-profits has just been given 11.5 million dollars in funding. From the news release, “The Atlantic Philanthropies, Ford Foundation, William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Lilly Endowment, Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, David and Lucile Packard Foundation, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and Surdna Foundation have committed grants totaling $11.5 million to GuideStar over the next 5 years…The GuideStar database currently comprises information on more than 850,000 nonprofit organizations. Basic program and financial data about these organizations is available for free on the GuideStar Web site. The database also includes more than 730,000 digitized Forms 990 and 990-EZ, offering three years� worth of returns for those organizations required to file the financial reporting forms with the Internal Revenue Service.”

Dialog, BioSpace Alliance Provides Pay-Per-Document Searching of Several Files
You can search several Dialog files using the BioSpace public site. Then, purchase individual documents via credit card. From the announcement, “The initial Dialog content available to BioSpace users includes clinical databases, worldwide patents and related intellectual property documentation, world news focused on the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, and an extensive array of scientific literature.” You can find a complete list of sources here.

The exhibit photographs date from approximately 1864 until 1937. The vast majority of the collection, however, dates from the World War I era.”
