“Canada Joins Global Online Answer Service”
“What’s more, millions of books and documents aren’t available on the Internet at all. The goal of the project, known as the Collaborative Digital Reference Service (CDRS), is to network the organizations that have the best knowledge of their databases into one seamless system…So far, 76 partners, including the U.S. Library of Congress, Harvard University the Smithsonian and national libraries in Hong Kong and Australia are involved in a pilot test of the program, which started in November. If all goes as planned, a CDRS Web site, where the public can begin information searches, should roll out sometime next year in a greatly expanded form, with at least 600 participating organizations.”
